Top 10 Foodies and Goodies

Welcome wonderful and magnificent people, today is my eleventh day of the challenge all about my ten favorite foods. When speaking about the food I’m quite diversified because I grew up in a Balkan country with strong ties to Greek and Turkish recipes, I spent quite a bit of time in Morocco, so here comes the Oriental cuisine, also I finished a basic French and Italian culinary school and pastry.

Here are my top ten favorite foods, the order is random:

Sarmale or stuffed cabbage or stuffed vine leaves, they are stuffed with minced meat, either pork, beef or mutton, sometimes combination of them, with onions, carrots, parsley, spices, everything is covered with sliced tomatoes, you add bacon in-between the layers and top it with water, after that you put it in the oven in a clay pot or on the fire slow cooking it for 2 – 3 hours.

Tagine or Tajine, is a slow-cooked stew in a clay pot, for a minimum of 2 hours that is called tagine, hence the name, with onions, carrots, potatoes, some other vegetable depending on the region, and with chicken, mutton, beef or fish also depends on the region.

Pizza, do I need to say more, my favorite one is Quattro Formaggi.

Cabbage soup or Soupe a Choux, is a simple soup made from cabbage, beef, and aromatics, onions, carrots, and celery, but small amount not to overpower the flavor, and topped with country bread.

Bean soup with smoked (pork) hocks, this is the perfect food for a cold winter, you can find it in this period everywhere in Romania, I can’t describe the heartwarming taste, especially if you drink besides a shot of pălincă, Romanian hard liquor.

Papanași or sweet cheese dumplings/donuts with cream and jam do I need to say more.

Cozonac, Romanian sponge cake, is a type of cake, similar to babka, filled with different fillings, from Turkish delight to raisins to chocolate cream or poppy cream.

Lasagna, minced meat with cheese and bechamel goodness

Drob de mile or Lamb Haggis, this one is an Easter tradition for Romanians and is a love-hate food.

Tripe Soup, another love-hate recipe that is hard to swallow if you don’t like the crunchy tripe.
